If you're not sure how you want to decorate your nursery, start by choosing the nursery bedding. You can already see exactly what your perfect nursery is going to look like, right down to the exact shade of paint for the walls - but hold your horses! It's very important to choose the right crib bedding, so make sure you have considered these things before you buy:
- Choose natural, soft fibers like 100% cotton.
- You are not going to have time for hand-washing your crib set, so be sure to buy something that is machine-washable.
- To prevent the risk of suffocation, make sure that the crib sheets fits the mattress snugly. If you crib sheets don't seem snug enough, there is an easy solution: buy elastic straps that clip onto the crib sheet and hold it in its place.
- When buying your baby bedding, you should seriously consider whether or not you need a set. The American Academy of pediatrics recommends against unnecessary bedding that is included in most bedding sets (like crib bumpers or quilts). So if you are trying to save money, consider buying individual pieces rather than a full bedding set. You might be worried that your bedding won't match, but look at it as an opportunity to get more creative instead.
- And lastly, when you've taken care of all the more important concerns, consider the look of the bedding, and how it will coordinate with the rest of the nursery.
Plan for the long term when buying your bedding. By using a convertible crib or a toddler bed that takes standard-sized crib sheets, you can continue to use your bedding for several years. Think about family size, too. If you planning on multiple children, then think about gender neutral crib bedding like the Vintage baby crib bedding set, because you won't need to buy new bedding. If you are sure there will be no more kids, however, then buying high-quality (and expensive!) baby bedding is not so important. You are definitely going to need more than one set of sheets, so be prepared and buy extras!
